Sports play an important role to stay active and healthy for young athletes. This time of year, it's important to remind them that aches and pains might signal a sports injury. And while kids are strong, "playing through the pain" for a young athlete with an injury can make it even worse.

According to a recent study, more children visit emergency rooms for sports-related injuries in September than at any other time of the year due to the influx of sports injuries. Football accounts for more than half of all sports-related visits in September for patients younger than 18 and emergency room trips due to soccer and volleyball injuries also peak that month.
